Meaning Sabbath

Verse: Luke 6:1-11 

Sabbath, not just a day set aside in the Jewish tradition. The Sabbath is a feast of highly maintained and sacred, even until today. The Sabbath is calculated based on the Jewish calendar, began Friday afternoon until Saturday afternoon just in time for sunset. 

The Jews were very fast to hold all the rules of the law. To ensure that any laws are understood and carried out with the best, religious leaders consider it necessary to add the things that have been detailed to any such law. Various additions and then gives rise to many restrictions to doing this and that. 

Lord Jesus was not unaware of all the rules that applied at the time. However, the Lord Jesus also knows that this understanding is wrong understanding. The Sabbath given by God, just for the enjoyment of human as the rest day and the day to worship God. But religious leaders have changed the purpose of God is to be the opposite.Therefore the Lord Jesus pointed out to them that, "The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath" (5). Jesus' words are an indication that Israel must not place the rules of men is higher than in their reverence to God. 

So also with us, as believers in this present age. The pursuit of piety and personal holiness, should not make us forget the main thing is more a sense of love and compassion for others. What is done by teaching that Jesus is a concern to a fellow human being is part of our worship and reverence to God. We can not say that we love God while at the same time we neglect and ignore our neighbors. Remember that the commandment to love God followed by the command to love others.

Adoption teachings

Verse: Luke 5:33-39 

According to Aaron Beck, a psychiatrist from America, Cognitive distortions are one cause of stress. One type of cognitive distortions is Should statements, namely the pattern of thought "should". People who have such a mindset will hold a rigid rule, without considering the circumstances and conditions. 

It seems that the Pharisees including such a person. They were uncompromising toward what they perceive as violations of religious rules. So no wonder when they questioned the unusual things done by Jesus and his disciples. One of them is a matter of fasting, which they say is a sign of repentance or piety. To answer, Jesus gives some illustrations that express his difference of doctrine and teachings of Jewish leaders. Judaism, taught by the Jewish leaders, is a doctrine that has long enjoyed by the Pharisees. By prioritizing compliance seriously to each of rituals and rules that the demands of these teachings, the Pharisees thought that the best teaching. Rituals and rules must be rigidly executed, regardless of the circumstances and conditions. For example, when the Sabbath day nobody is allowed to do something, even if it helps the sick. 

And not like that the teachings of Jesus. Jesus brought a new covenant, which could not adapt or adopt the old teachings. When you take the example of the Sabbath, for Jesus' Sabbath is a day when the grace of God should be declared as well. So what's the harm if a healer to heal the sick on the Sabbath? 

If we are sensitive, even now many who infiltrated the teachings of Christianity. For example it is said that prayers delivered at twelve o'clock will be heard of God. Is not this kind of adoption that is not done by the teaching of Jesus? Let's explore each of the teaching we hear, let us not be misled.

Bearers or spectators

Verse: Luke 5:17-32 

Power of Jesus has been declared among humans. Healing miracles that Jesus did make people sick and the people around him have hope. 

So when Jesus was teaching in the middle of the crowd, some people came carrying a paralyzed (18). They want to bring the paralyzed to the presence of Jesus, with the hope that Jesus is pleased to heal him. Of course not easily penetrate the crowd by bringing up the lame. But faith in Jesus and the hope of healing the paralyzed to make them give up. Obstacles are not barriers to come to Jesus. So they climbed onto the roof, pry the roof, and lowered the paralyzed with usungannya. This is not an easy job.But despite the hassle, those people have a longing for the disabled experience the miracle of Jesus. Consider, for their recognition of Jesus and the knowledge they will be his authority to encourage them to share their faith with others, though for that they themselves must take pains. 

But there are also people willing to follow Jesus because Jesus himself who immediately called them. For example, Levi. He was a tax collector, positions that looked down upon by his fellow countrymen. 

In either event, the present group of people from different faith positions. They are the Pharisees and scribes. There was no sense of joy because of the healing of the paralyzed or because of conversion of the tax collector. They just watch and the acting in opposition to Jesus. 

When we were there, and do not include people who are directly served by Jesus, where our position? Is it one of the people who brought the paralytic, who believe in Jesus and wants others to also enjoy His love? Or like the Pharisees who act as critics in the audience as well as handyman services, but did not have time to bring people come to Jesus? May God help us to be in the right position.
